Jason Frederick KiddĀ (born March 23, 1973) is an American former professional basketball player and is currently theĀ head coachĀ of theĀ Brooklyn NetsĀ of theĀ National Basketball AssociationĀ (NBA). According to reports, he will also have a small ownership stake in the team, pending NBA approval. Previously aĀ point guardĀ in the NBA, he was a ten-timeĀ NBA All-Star, a five-timeĀ All-NBAĀ First Team member, and a nine-timeĀ NBA All-Defensive TeamĀ member. He won anĀ NBA championshipĀ in 2011 as a member of theĀ Dallas Mavericks. Raised inĀ Oakland, California, Kidd playedĀ college basketballĀ for theĀ California Golden BearsĀ and was drafted second overall by theĀ Dallas MavericksĀ in the first round of theĀ 1994 NBA Draft. He was named co-NBA Rookie of the YearĀ in his first season with the Mavericks. Then, from 1996 to 2001, Kidd played for theĀ Phoenix SunsĀ and later for theĀ New Jersey NetsĀ from 2001 to 2008. He led the Nets to two consecutiveNBA FinalsĀ appearances inĀ 2002Ā andĀ 2003. In the middle of the 2007ā08 season, Kidd was traded back to Dallas, where he won his only NBA championship inĀ 2011. After finishing his playing career with theĀ New York KnicksĀ in 2012ā13, he retired and returned a week later as head coach for the now Brooklyn Nets. Kidd's ability toĀ passĀ andĀ reboundĀ made him a regularĀ triple-doubleĀ threat, and he retired ranked third all-time in the NBA for regular season triple-doubles with a career total of 107Ā and second in playoff triple-doubles with a career total of 11.Ā He also won two Olympic gold medals with theĀ US national teamĀ inĀ 2000Ā andĀ 2008.
