Francis Lee Bailey Jr.Ā (June 10, 1933 ā June 3, 2021) was an AmericanĀ criminal defenseĀ attorney. His name first came to nationwide attention for his involvement in the second murder trial ofĀ Sam Sheppard, a surgeon accused of murdering his wife. He later served as the attorney in a number of other high-profile cases, such asĀ Albert DeSalvo, a suspect in the "Boston Strangler" murders, heiressĀ Patty Hearst's trial for bank robberies committed during her involvement with theĀ Symbionese Liberation Army, and US Army CaptainĀ Ernest MedinaĀ for theĀ My Lai Massacre. He was a member of the "Dream Team" in theĀ trialĀ of former football playerĀ O. J. Simpson, who was accused of murderingĀ Nicole Brown SimpsonĀ andĀ Ron Goldman. He is considered one of the greatest lawyers of the 20th century.
