George Raymond Richard MartinĀ (bornĀ George Raymond Martin; September 20, 1948), also known asĀ G.R.R.M.,Ā is an American author, television writer, and television producer. He is best known as the author of the series ofĀ epic fantasyĀ novelsĀ A Song of Ice and Fire, which was adapted into theĀ Primetime Emmy Award-winning television seriesĀ Game of ThronesĀ (2011ā2019) and its prequel seriesĀ House of the DragonĀ (2022āpresent). He also helped create theĀ Wild Cards anthology series and contributedĀ to worldbuildingĀ for the video gameĀ Elden RingĀ (2022).
In 2005,Ā Lev GrossmanĀ ofĀ TimeĀ called Martin "the AmericanĀ Tolkien,"Ā and in 2011, he was included on the annualĀ TimeĀ 100Ā list of the most influential people in the world. Martin has lived inĀ Santa Fe, New Mexico, for a long time, where he helped fundĀ Meow WolfĀ and owns theĀ Jean Cocteau Cinema. The city commemorates March 29 as George R.Ā R. Martin Day.
